Since my last newsletter, Hurricane Dolly came on shore in the Texas Valley area on July 23d. There was a lot of dammage due to Dolly.
Tom Tanner, K5DG, lost his house and everything. After getting his family settled in a shelter, Tom returned to duty at one of the Valley EOCs. That's above and beyond the call of duty. Our thoughts and prayers go with Tom and his family during this time of loss.
Then came Tropical Storm Edouard. We didn't need to provide communications but there was some dammage and power outage on some areas in the Houston area.
Then on August 18th, we really had the rain. One lady had to be rescued here in San Antonio. The info that I got from the State Office of Emergency Managment was that they were rescueing people by boat in the Rio Grand City area. However at this point they have not lost communications. We were to have more of the same on August 19.
I want to thank everyone who helped in this time of need. Mike, KG5TL, has done a great job getting things operational. We never lost communications with the Valley during all this time. The State DEM thanked all the ham operators and ARES for a job well done.
Now is the time for the clubs to train operators for times like these.
I want to thank the 7290 Traffic Net and the Gulf Coast Hurricane net for their help. I also want to thank Gary Stratton, K5GLS, for standing by if needed.
It was great seeing Rick Melcer, N5KAO, in the September QST.
May God Bless America and our Troops.
