AMATEUR
RADIO LEGISLATION NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT. From the desk of John Meyers,
NB4K, Great Lakes District Legislative Action Chair, comes a request to
the Amateurs in Kentucky to write their members of Congress to support
the following bills: Senate Bill (S-1629): Emergency Amateur Radio
Interference Protection Act of 2007. A bill to request a study by the
Federal Communications Commission on the interference caused by broadband
Internet transmission over power lines. Also, House of Representatives
(H.R. 462): Emergency Amateur Radio Interference Protection Act of
2007 To request a study by the Federal Communications Commission on the
interference caused by broadband internet transmission over power lines.
In Kentucky, only 2nd District Rep. Ron Lewis is cosponsoring the bill.
John
writes in his update that those who believe it is a waste of time to contact
your Congressman are plain worng. "Concise, well thought out personal
letters are one of the most effective ways Americans have of influencing
lawmakers." In the past, Meyers says that "we as Amateurs, write
our Senators or House of Representatives complaining that a certain Act
or Bill will not be good for Amateur Radio. But, this time we all need
to write and let our Representatives know that we would like them to support
these Bills and that we appreciate the fact that they are looking into
the future of the service of Amateur Radio. If you're not sure who to
write then go to the leagues web site (http://www.arrl.org) click on Members
Only and a new page will pop up with the listings of the Congressman/Congresswomen,
Senators and House of Representatives in your District." Click
here to download and read NB4K's full message as a MS Word document.

Note: The reporting section of KYHAM is functional. Please submit all
monthly reports there. EC reports will go to their respective DECs for
totaling. Areas with no DEC will still come to me. This will make reporting
and accountability more streamlined. http://www.kyham.net/emcomm/reports.html.
Reports are due to your respective DECs by the 5th of the month. DECs
need to have their reports to me by the 10th of the month. Please fill
out the reports completely so they do not get returned for correction.
Reminder that ARES appointees (OES, EC, DECs) need to file a monthly report
so we can track activities.
