Members of the United States Power Squadron's Amateur Radio Club held a Special Event at W1AW, the Hiram Percy Maxim Memorial Station on June 7-8 to celebrate the National Safe Boating Council's Safe Boating Week. This is the second time USPS has operated from the station -- the first time was in 2006 -- and they were enthusiastically anticipating their return to Amateur Radio's flagship station.

While at W1AW, USPS hams made 736 contacts, on 80, 40, 20, 17 and 6 meters (including one satellite QSO on VO-52) using primarily SSB and some PSK31, beating their 2006 QSO count by 217 QSOs. ARRL Membership Manager Katie Breen kept a blog of the event. Carlton Lee, W2PTZ, presented Breen and W1AW Station Manager Joe Carcia, NJ1Q, with special certificates recognizing their participation over the weekend. A special certificate was also presented to the ARRL in recognition for their continued support of the US Power Squadron.
