W1AW Qualifying Runs are 10 PM EST Friday, Mar 9 (0300 UTC Mar 10) (10-35 WPM), and 7 PM Tuesday, Mar 20 EDT (2300 UTC Mar 20) (10-40 WPM). The K6YR West Coast Qualifying Run will be at 9 PM PDT Wednesday, Mar 14 (0400 UTC Mar 15) (10-40 WPM). Unless otherwise indicated, code speeds are from 10-35 WPM. Check the W1AW schedule elsewhere in this issue for more details.

SO -- Single-Op; M2 -- Multiop, 2 Transmitters; MO -- Multi-Op; MS -- Multi-Op, Single Transmitter; MM -- Multi-Op, Multiple Transmitters; AB -- All Band; SB -- Single Band; S/P/C -- State/Province/DXCC Entity; HP -- High Power (>100 W); LP -- Low Power; QRP -- 5 W or less; Entity -- DXCC Entity.

DARC 10-Meter Digital "Corona" -- RTTY/AMTOR/PACTOR/PSK31/Clover, sponsored by Deutscher Amateur Radio Club from 1100Z-1700Z Mar 4 (see Nov 2006 QST, p 104 or www.darc.de/referate/dx/cqdlcont/fgdcc.htm).

Open Ukraine RTTY Championship -- sponsored by the Ukrainian Amateur Radio League (UARL) from 2200Z Mar 3-0159Z Mar 4 (low bands-160 and 80 meters-two separate 2 hour periods) and 0800Z-1159Z Mar 4 (high bands 40-10 meters). Categories: SOAB, SOSB and MO. Exchange: Two letter regional abbreviation (see Web site) and serial number. Start serial numbers over for high band portion. Once a month, these short contests provide an opportunity to try out a portable or mobile station in the Skinny Division or a regular home station in the Tubby Division -- great fun!

Spartan Sprint -- CW, sponsored by the Adventure Radio Society, from 0200Z-0400Z Mar 6 (Monday evening in the US -- times will change during Daylight Savings Time; see Web site). Held on the first Monday of every month. Frequencies (MHz): 3.560, 7.040, 14.060, 21.060, 28.060 (QRP calling frequencies). Categories: SO. Exchange: RST, S/P/C and power output. Score: "Skinny" division -- total QSOs/total station weight, "Tubby" division -- total QSOs. For more information: www.ARSqrp.com. RSGB Commonwealth Contest -- CW, sponsored by the RSGB from 1000Z Mar 10-1000Z Mar 11. Open to British Commonwealth stations only; work stations once per band outside your own call area. HQ stations may be worked by everyone and count as a separate call area. Frequencies: lower 30 kHz of 80-10 meters. Categories: SO -- open (full-time) and restricted (12 hrs max), Headquarters -- MO and SO, no spotting assistance. Scoring: 5 points per QSO, first 3 QSOs with a call area count 25 points. Wisconsin QSO Party -- Phone/CW, sponsored by the West Allis RAC from 1800Z Mar 11-0100Z Mar 12. Frequencies (MHz): CW 3.550, 3.705, 7.050, 14.050 and 21-440; Phone 3.890, 7.230, 14.290, 21.350, 28.400, 50-440 -- no repeater QSOs. Categories: SO, MS, MM and Mobile. No county line operations. Exchange: S/P/C or WI county. QSO points: Phone -- 1 point, CW -- 2 points. Score: Power mult × QSO points × WI counties (max 72); WI stations use QSO points × WI counties + S/P/C, WI mobiles/portables add 500 bonus points for county with 12 or more QSOs. Frequencies (MHz): CW -- 35 kHz above band edge; Phone -- 7.260, 14.260, 21.335, 28.470 MHz, plus 50, 144, 440 MHz. Categories: SO, MS, MM, Mobile, School, Special Event -- all may be QRP/LP/HP (150 W or more) and Mixed/CW/Phone/Digital. QSO points: see Web site. Score: QSO points × ID counties (non-ID stations use S/C), all multipliers count once per mode. For more information: www.nt4tt.com. RTTY is the fastest growing contest mode, and all it takes to play is a simple audio interface and one of the free or low-cost software packages. This contest will give your tuning skills a workout.

North American RTTY Sprint -- sponsored by NCJ from 0000Z-0400Z Mar 11. Frequencies 80-20 meters. North American stations work everyone; others work NA stations only. Exchange both call signs, serial number, name and S/P/C. The same station can be worked multiple times provided 3 contacts separate the contact in both logs, regardless of band. QSY rule: Stations calling CQ, QRZ, etc, may only work one station in response to that call -- they must then move at least 1 kHz before working another station, or 5 kHz before soliciting another call. Once you are required to QSY, you may not make a new QSO on the previous frequency until you have made a contact at least 1 or 5 kHz (as required) away. For more information: www.ncjweb.com. EA PSK31 Contest -- sponsored by the Unión de Radioaficionados Españoles (URE), from 1600Z Mar 10-1600Z Mar 11. Frequencies: 80-10 meters. Categories: SOAB, SOSB, MO. Exchange: RST + serial number or EA province. Scoring: own continent 1 point on 20-10 meters, 2 points on 80-40 meters, different continent 3 points on 20-10 and 6 points on 80-40. Funny how 10 meters always seems to spring to life during a contest! Even at the solar minimum, there is plenty of ES ground wave and scatter propagation to try.

Categories: SOAB, SOSB, SO- Assisted, -HP, LP and -QRP, MS (10 minute rule), M/2, MM, SO-Rookie, SO-Tribander-and-Single-Wire. SO operate 36 hours max with off times at least 60 minutes. Exchange: RS(T) + serial number. QSO points: different continents -- 3points (14-28 MHz) and 6 points (1.8-7 MHz); with North America -- 2 points (14-28 MHz) and 4 points (1.8- 7 MHz); with own country -- 1 point.
