The Industry Advisory Council was proposed by the Long Range Planning Committee to provide an avenue for recommendations and concerns from industry to be formally endorsed and presented to the ARRL board, and authorized by the board action (minute 61, July 1992).

Highlights of Activity for the period June, 2000 through December, 2000

Minutes of the November 12, 2000 IAC Teleconference

The November 12, 2000 meeting of the ARRL Industry Advisory Council was called to order at 11 A.M. MST. All members were in attendance except Bob Miller, K2RM. Mr. Steven Pan of MFJ attended by invitation of the Chairman.

  1. The following connectors and interfaces were discussed:
    1. DC power connector
    2. Base station microphone connector
    3. Sound card interface
    4. Serial port interface
  1. The following standards were tentatively adopted for DC power connectors:
    1. DC Power Connector for typical 100w HF radio - Molex 319 with the following pin assignment: 1-power (+); 2-power (-); 3- no connection or remote switching; 4-power (+); 5 power (-); 6-no connection or remote switching.
    2. Power Connector for typical 50w - type name unknown (common on vhf mobile radios) with the following pin assignment: 1- power (-); 2- power (+).
  1. The following microphone connector standards were tentatively adopted:
    1. Base station microphone connector -- 8 pin round, no pin assignment at this time.
    2. Base station microphone connector -- 8-pin modular (RJ45), no pin assignments at this time.
  1. The following sound card connector standard is under consideration:
    1. Input on radio: 3.5mm female, 3 conductor stereo
    2. Output from radio: 3.5mm female 3 conductor stereo
    3. Pin assignments: tip -- right audio (mono); ring -- left audio (open for mono); sleeve -- ground.
    4. The following alternative is being considered for small radios: tip -- mono audio from rig; ring -- transmit audio to rig; sleeve -- ground.
  1. The following data port interface is under consideration:
    1. Connector on radio -- 3.5mm, 3 conductor stereo, female
    2. Pin assignments: tip -- TXD; ring -- RXD; sleeve -- ground.
  1. Consideration of an amplifier T/R switching standard was placed on the agenda. No particular standard is currently under consideration.
  2. The council intends that the tentative recommendations as well as the items under consideration be submitted to JAIA for their comments and recommendations.
  3. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 12:30 PM MST.
